| 1. UPDATE: The Missing Sync for Palm OS v5.1.2 http://www.markspace.com/downloads.html Mark/Space has released the v5.1.2 update for The Missing Sync for Palm OS. This update, which is free for all owners of version 5.x, improves the handling of line endings in notes when .Mac/Sync Services syncing has been activated in Microsoft Entourage, fixes a problem with syncing Address Book contacts that had dates assigned (such as an anniversary) and provides compatibility with DataViz's brand new Documents to Go version 9.0. The 5.1.2 update is recommended for all owners of v5.x. The software installer and complete release notes are available from the Downloads page of the Mark/Space website: http://www.markspace.com/downloads.html |
| 2. NEW FORUMS: Introducing the New Mark/Space Forums http://forums.markspace.com In an effort to provide more tools for our community of users, Mark/Space has recently launched a User Forums area on its website. Historically, community-based support has been handled by mailing list. Such email lists are useful for keeping up with certain topics, but in today's online world of forums and RSS feeds, email lists can be somewhat limiting, and they have a high entry-requirement (readers must be willing to receive individual emails or compiled digests that transmit every communication to the list). Forums, on the other hand, offer an easily searchable archive, subscriptions to individual topics, linkable posts that are easy to share with others and email notification when you want it. We're asking folks to migrate to the forums, and we'll be closing down the product mailing lists on November 1st. This announcement/newsletter list will remain active. We're excited about these forums, and we think that more users will appreciate and use them than the old mailing list option. Just like with the mailing lists, these forums are not an official means of contacting Mark/Space Technical Support. Rather, these forums are provided to foster community-based support and discussion, where users of Mark/Space products can share their knowledge and help others get answers to questions. Come join the Mark/Space User Forums: http://forums.markspace.com. We hope to see you there! |
| 3. DISCONTINUED: Missing Sync for hiptop (Sidekick) Discontinued
We regret to announce that The Missing Sync for hiptop (T-Mobile Sidekick) was discontinued at the end of September. It is unfortunate, but the market for that product simply does not support continued development. The Missing Sync for hiptop will continue to sync with carriers' servers as long as Danger and their carriers support the existing sync protocol. Mark/Space will continue to offer email and web-based customer support for this product until September 30, 2007. Mark/Space will automatically process refunds for all Missing Sync for hiptop purchases made during September, 2006. Refunds will take a few days to process and should then appear on customers' credit card accounts. If you made your purchase during this time, you need not take any action; your money will be refunded automatically. For customers who made their purchase outside of the refund period, Mark/Space is offering a special $10 crossgrade price for either the Palm OS or Windows Mobile editions of The Missing Sync, allowing customers to apply the full purchase price of their hiptop edition to another smartphone sync product. Interested customers can visit http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_hiptop_crossgrade.php to learn more. |

| 5. NEW DEVICES: Cool new Windows Mobile and Palm OS Devices
If you're a reader of Brighthand http://www.brighthand.com or our favorite gadget websites, Engadget http://www.engadget.com and Gizmodo http://www.gizmodo.com, then you're probably already up on all the cool new devices hitting stores these days. If not, read on. In the US, a couple of device announcements caught our eye... T-Mobile announced that they would begin offering the Dash, a Windows Mobile Smartphone built on the HTC S620 platform. Similar to the Motorola Q in form, the Dash is a thin and good-looking device with a QWERTY keyboard that SMS and email addicts will appreciate. http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=12528 Palm last week announced the new Treo 680 running Palm OS. Looking like a Treo 700p without an antenna, the new 680 is an entry-level Treo for GSM/GPRS networks. Believe it or not, this Treo will come in different COLORS. Analysts have suggested that this model will be priced around $199 (US). http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=12530 In other parts of the world, where there is a much greater selection of cool smartphones, we also noticed a couple of cool products that are now in stores... The Qtek 8500 is a clamshell-style Windows Mobile Smartphone, with a sleek design and great looks. This is a great device for people who don't need a full keyboard, but who want a stylish phone with Windows Mobile functionality. http://www.myqtek.com/europe/products/8500.aspx One of the most instantly popular devices we've seen is the new HTC TyTN. Until recently, HTC only manufactured devices for the likes of Palm, O2 and others, but now they're releasing products under the HTC label. The TyTN is a Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition device, with a QWERTY keyboard and mobile versions of Microsoft Word and Excel. http://www.europe.htc.com/products/htctytn.html |
| 6. SUPPORT TIP: Syncing Windows Mobile devices via Bluetooth http://support.markspace.com/?kb=2728 We've seen some Windows Mobile devices have trouble establishing an initial ActiveSync connection with The Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. Usually, trying a few troubleshooting steps will get things connected up and syncing without any trouble. If you're having trouble getting your Windows Mobile device to sync over Bluetooth, take a look at the troubleshooting steps outlined in our Support Knowledgebase article and give them a try. You can find the article here: http://support.markspace.com/?kb=2728. |
| 7. SUPPORT TIP: Verizon Wireless Sync and the Treo 650/700p http://support.markspace.com/?kb=2430 Verizon ships all their Treo 650 and 700p devices with an application called Wireless Sync that provides over-the-air syncing with applications like Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes. Unfortunately, Wireless Sync does not support syncing with any Mac applications, and activating it may actually prevent syncing with The Missing Sync. Verizon's Wireless Sync can peacefully coexist with The Missing Sync, provided that you follow one simple step. In the Wireless Sync app on the Treo, select Connection Settings from the Setup menu, tap the Advanced button and check the "Enable other sync apps" box. For more information, take a look at our Support Knowledgebase article: http://support.markspace.com/?kb=2430. |
| 8. NEW IN STORE: iambic's Agendus and YourCall for Palm OS http://store.markspace.com Longtime Palm OS software developer iambic is now represented in the Mark/Space Online Store, and they have some ultra-cool products that we're pleased to introduce. Agendus Professional provide contacts, calendar and tasks management capabilities far above those of the built-in Palm apps. With task grouping, the ability to attach contacts to meetings, 18 calendar views and innovative wireless tools, Agendus Professional is the killer personal information manager for Palm OS. And especially cool for Mac users, Agendus uses the built-in databases on the Palm for storing information. That means that it syncs with the Mac apps that support Palm syncing. Very nice! $39.95 in the Mark/Space Store. http://store.markspace.com/product.php?id=6120 YourCall is a thoughtful little application that recognizes when you complete a call on your Treo and then asks you if you'd like to jot down some notes or create a meeting event on your calendar. This time-saving app is highly useful and can help keep you from forgetting to note important details following a call. $9.95 in the Mark/Space Store. http://store.markspace.com/product.php?id=6122 |
