| 1. NEWS: Online 1.3.1 (PalmOS) Released
Online v1.3.1 has just been released! Among the larger changes are support for the new serial manager (allowing access to addition real/virtual serial ports such as IR or Compact Flash), a hex mode for logging, a new "log options" dialog, and many improvements in the way that "send memo" and logging to memo pad records work. For a complete list of changes, see "Release Notes.doc", included with the distribution. Version 1.3.1 is a free update - just use the serial number you received with version 1.2 or later (registered customers of 1.0-1.2 can request a free 1.3 serial number by sending hotsync name in a message to sales@markspace.com).
If you there are features you would like to see implemented in future
versions of Online, remember to join the online-talk
mailing list
The next major features being worked on for Online are support for
telnet connections via TCP, and file transfer protocols (most likely
YMODEM or ZMODEM). |
| 2. NEWS: PageNOW! E-Mail Gateway 1.0.1 (MacOS) Released
PageNOW! E-Mail Gateway 1.0.1 (Mac OS) is now available for downloading. This free update corrects the following problems:
The PageNOW! E-Mail Gateway provides a link between email addresses and pagers or digital phones. The gateway simply checks internet email addresses, and relays any messages found to the designated pager or phone. The gateway can be used with email accounts on an in-house email server, or those on an internet service provider - you can even mix and match. To reach a pager or phone, just send email to address such as "page_brian@yourcompany.com", "sales_force@pagers.mycompany.com" or even "personal_account@national_isp.com". The gateway can be configured on a per-address basis to limit the contents of the forwarded message (ie, complete message, or sender and subject only) as well as the times of day that the account should be active (ie, 9am-5pm or 24 hours/day). |
| 3. OFFER: Upgrade program for E-Mail Gateway - 1/2 off to switch to POP!
Users of older Mark/Space E-Mail gateways for LAN/proprietary systems (such as those previously sold for QuickMail/LAN, Microsoft Mail, cc:Mail) can upgrade to the new POP3 based e-mail gateway for 1/2 off! For example, move to the 5 user gateway for just $99 (regularly $199). Offer limited to one per older/discontinued gateway previously purchased, on initial order only (not subsequent upgrades), and only for those who we have a record of purchase (or that can provide proof of purchase from a reseller). To order, or for further details, contact sales@markspace.com |
| 4. REVIEWS: Online reviewed in CQ-VHF Ham Radio, December 1999
http://www.cq-vhf.com The December issue of CQ-VHF Magazine contains a review of Online, as used by Ham Radio operators! From the article: "After some searching around I chose "Online," a commercial program from Mark/Space Softworks. Frankly, the choice was arbitrary; several applications worked fine for me, but this one had a nice look to it and had some additional features I'd use at the office. A useful feature is that it supports rudimentary file uploads by letting you choose a memo from the PalmPilot's Memo Pad application, so you're able to compose offline and send them when you're connected to your TNC." article written bt Ray Rischpater, KF6GPE. You should be able to find CQ-VHF Magazine at larger metropolitan bookstores. |
| 5. PALMOS: TRG Pro now shipping - Online/PageNOW! updated to support it
The much anticipated TRG Pro PalmOS organizer is now shipping! The TRG Pro includes a compact flash (CF) slot, useful for expanding the device via cards with extra memory, modems, bar code scanners, and more. One of the nice benefits of working with CF is that you can access the same cards on your laptop or PowerBook via a CF to PC Card adaptor. Mark/Space has updated Online (as of v1.3) and PageNOW! (as of v2.0) to support serial ports and modems that may be present via a CF card. These new versions of Online and PageNOW! will present a list of all available ports on any device running PalmOS 3.3 or later (such as the TRG Pro or Palm Vx). In addition to extra ports from the CF slot, this new feature also allows the easy selection of the IR port, so you can easily connect to other devices that support IRDA and IRCOMM. The TRG Pro also sports an enhanced speaker, and Mark/Space is working on several applications that will take advantage of the improved volume and response of the speaker. Watch Mark/Space News for further announcements! |
