  • 2. NEW: Online v1.0 Terminal Emulator Released (PalmOS)
    http://www.markspace.com/online.html

Online 1.0 is now available for downloading. Mark/Space Softworks has recently acquired and released a *brand-new* version of this very popular VT-100 terminal emulation application (formerly published by Haus of Maus.)

Online is a VT-100 terminal emulator for the PalmPilot, Palm III, and IBM WorkPad lines of personal organizers.

Using Online you can connect to other computer systems and access real computer power and network resources wherever you are. For example Online has been used to connect to Unix systems and then surf the web using Lynx, edit files with vi and emacs - and even to read and write email using elm!

Online can be connected either via clip-on modem or serial cable.

Online is available direct from Mark/Space or PGHQ for $29.95. Owners of the previous release by Haus of Maus may upgrade for $9.95 (via Mark/Space only).

Also, see the Winter $pecial above--buy Online now and purchase PageNOW! for PalmOS at 1/2 price!

  • 6. THRIFTY TIP: Using Communicate Lite for Local Data Transfer (Mac)
    http://www.markspace.com/comm_lite.html

I'd like to transfer data from an older Macintosh computer to my iMac by running a phone cable from its modem to the iMac's built-in 56K modem. Is this possible? If so, what is the process for transferring files?

While Ethernet is a much faster way to transfer data, if your older Macintosh is not Ethernet capable, you can use Mark/Space's Communicate Lite to perform the transfer. Here's how to do it:

    01) Connect both modems with a standard telephone cable.
    02) In Communicate Lite, open a new Session in each computer.
    03) For both computers, under the Settings menu set the Connections Settings to:
  • Method: Serial Tool
  • Baud Rate: 57600
  • Parity: None
  • Data Bits: 8
  • Stop Bits: 1
  • Handshake DTR & CTS
  • Current Port : Internal (or appropriate port)
  • 04) For both computers, set or leave the default File Transfer Settings as:
  • Protocol: ZMODEM Tool
  • Method: MacBinary
  • Transfer Options: Standard
  • 05) On the receiving computer, in Communicate Lite, select a receiving folder.

    06) Open the Connection in the sending computer (this will let you type modem AT commands).

    07) On the sending computer, type: ATD

    08) On the receiving computer type: ATA
(The modems should begin to negotiate and indicate a connection speed.)

    09) Once the modems are connected, select Send File from the Session menu on the sending computer.(Select a StuffIt archive file of the data you wish to send.) On the receiving computer, select Receive File.

    10) The computers should start to send and receive the file via ZMODEM.
