* 5. TIP: Some phone services now offer "Internet Call Waiting!"
            http://www.nortel.com/pcn/cw/index.html

Many users of Mark/Space's PhoneWatcher (CallerID software) have
been asking for "Internet Call Waiting." We're passing this
information on to you, as it appears the time is coming when
your phone service may include such a feature!

NORTEL says: Internet Call Waiting allows single-line users to
monitor and control incoming calls without ever leaving the
Internet. When your phone service provider offers this feature,
all you will require is a dial-up connection to an
ISP and a Java-enabled browser running on your laptop or desktop.

The following information comes to us from Lucent Technologies:
            http://www.lucent.com

Lucent Technologies has announced Internet Call Waiting, an
intelligent network (IN) software solution that will allow
on-line Internet users to receive a call-waiting message on their
computer screen when a telephone call comes in on the
     same phone line.

The software must be installed in the local telephone network by
an Internet service provider who wishes to offer this features
     to its customers.

When a telephone call comes in, on-line users surfing the Web
would see a pop-up message on their computer monitor. The user
would have the option of routing the call to voice mail,
ignoring the call or accepting the call.

(Lucent's Internet Call Waiting solution was expected be
available in the third quarter of 1998.)

* 6. TIP: Using PageNOW! with FilmMagic Pro
            http://www.inksoft.com/overview/features.html

FilmMagic Pro 2.0 is InkWell Software's Macintosh imaging solution
for AGFA, Lasergraphics, MGI and Polaroid Film Recorders. It is a
Queue-based PostScript RIP and bitmap file interpreter for Service
Bureaus, Graphics Departments, and Medical Imaging Centers.

FilmMagic Pro now offers error reporting to alphanumeric Pagers
for users of PageNow! by Mark/Space Softworks. FilmMagic Pro now
pages you if you are away from the computer and the software needs
     your attention.

* 7. TIP: Update on using PageNOW! with Nextel

Here's a bit more detail on using PageNOW! to send text messages to
     Nextel Phones:

Your speed and settings should be 1200-2400 baud/Even Parity/
7 Data bits/1 Stop Bit. Create a Service using the TAP protocol,
and, as the phone number, use the area code and the first three
digits of the Nextel phone's number, then 6683 (NOTE on your
phonepad) as the last 4 digits. Example: if the Nextel phone's
number is 123-456-7890, then you would type the service listing as
"123-456-6683." In the Subscriber listing, you will type the
person's full, 10-digit Nextel phone number as the pin number.
That's all there is to it. (This tip submitted by PageNOW! user
     Glenn Cobb. Thank you, Glenn!)

* 8. STATUS REPORT: PageNOW! 1.5 for PalmOS (Pilot, PalmPilot, PalmIII)
                    http://www.markspace.com/pagenow_pilot.html

PageNOW! 1.5 for PalmOS is now in Public Beta.

     New features include:
      - Support for sending SMS messages via attached GSM/PCS digital phones.
Works with all phones supported by the Option Snap-On GSM modem as
well as the Nokia 9000 and other phones with built-in modem.
      - A handy troubleshooting window during message send. See all the data
being sent to/from the service. Very handy for tracking down invalid
pager IDs or improper communications settings
      - A "small icon" that displays in the launcher's list view on
        Palm OS 3.0.
      - Full (and proper) support for "auto-shift" during text entry
      - Fixed many small bugs

You can download a copy of the latest version (currently 1.5d7 as this
     is written) by visiting http://www.markspace.com/pagenow_pilot.html

* 9. FEEDBACK: Happy PageNOW! users in Denmark, @ NOW-Online, NIKE

From Denmark: "I have been using PageNOW for a few weeks and I love
it. It's true, I use it for business and it is functional and very
useful, but I use it for personal communication too. It is private,
quick, and there are no message errors because I don't
have to send it thru a third person.

     Great stuff, thanks,

"Here at Nike, we use the PageNOW! Web/Server software, and it's
kept quite busy all through the work week."

*10. HAPPY ENDING!: PhoneWatcher Spans Generations--Connects Grandma
     to Family!

"My 92 year old grandmother lives with my mother and cannot hear the
telephone ring. After trying several external ringers (none ring
loud enough), I gave my Mom my old 030 Mac with speakers and a
modem. Problem is all of the telephony applications out there
required a PowerMac or at least an 040 processor. That's when I
came across PhoneWatcher, and for our needs, it works like a charm.

"In the past, I had thought about selling the Mac, but never thought
the few hundred I could get for it was worth letting it go. Now, I'm
glad I kept it. Because it is doing what no other piece of phone
equipment could do: making our lives a lot easier. No more
does my mother need to rush home from work in the middle of the day,
worried why my grandmother is not answering the phone.

"And yet, it would not have been possible without the software.
Thanks for not abandoning the lowly 030 processor when writing
PhoneWatcher. We may not use all of PhoneWatcher's full range of
features, but now my grandmother can hear the phone loud
and clear. Now, if only the neighbors don't complain . . .

"I wish you much success with PhoneWatcher."

     John Mark Davis

Editor's Note: PhoneWatcher works with all Macintoshes using
     Mac System 7.x-MacOS 8.x
