PhoneWatcher 2.0 Progress Report

In our last newsletter, we reported that Mark/Space had acquired PhoneWatcher
and was working on a minor update, version 1.8. Since then quite a bit has
happened! MacWEEK covered PhoneWatcher in the September 10 issue, which generated
a great deal of interest (and completed PhoneWatcher surveys).

for the gold and head straight to version 2.0. Versions in public beta already sport
a number of new features including searchable area codes and country codes windows,

PageNOW! for Pilot Progress Report

PageNOW! for Pilot is coming along quite well, and we expect to start the
public beta program in mid-November. For complete details including feature list,

Here is a summary of the features for the 1.0 release:

- Supports all paging services (Using the industry-standard TAP protocol) 
- Supports Pilot modem as well as external Hayes-compatible modems

- Memorized Messages: Place commonly sent messages in an easy-access popup menu 
- Message Splitting: Splits long messages into a series of smaller ones

Communicate Lite 1.5S now bundled with all Supra modems

Diamond Multimedia, makers of the Supra line of modems, recently selected
Communicate Lite for bundling with all of their Macintosh modems.
Previously Supra bundled German and French language versions of Communicate
in international markets, now Communicate Lite can be found bundled with all
Supra modems. As an added bonus, copies of Communicate Lite bundled by Supra
include the Mark/Space PC-ANSI Tool, which provides color and sound PC-BBS
terminal emulation.


Using PageNOW! with SW Bell PCS Phones

SouthWestern Bell recently began offering short message service to their digital
phones. To send a message via PageNOW!, you just need to know the following
information:

The modem access number is 800-469-5351
The modem must be configured for 2400 baud, 8N1
-->*NOTE* This is not usual. Most systems use 7E1.



Many PageNet numbers go 1200 baud

Attention PageNOW! users sending messages to PageNet subscribers. 

If you suddenly find that your pages to a PageNet subscriber no longer complete,
try changing your baud rate to 1200, instead of 300 baud.
(PageNOW! > Configure > Connection > Baud Rate). Most PageNet systems now
operate with equipment that no longer supports 300 baud connections.

PageNet now encourages their subscribers purchase PageNOW! from Mark/Space
Softworks as the Mac paging software of choice.



Combine PageNOW! with WebCollage to push data to pagers

Many people have been using WebCollage from StarNine to create dynamic
graphics for web pages. Weather reports, stock summaries, and other
custom graphics can be rendered for display when a web page is accessed.

Now you can use WebCollage to push that same data to your pager! Sample
scripts included with PageNOW! 1.6 show you how to collect data from a table
on a web page, and if the data matches certain criteria - send a page.
One included example watches the NASDAQ web site and sends a page if Apple
stock drops below a preset value. Use this example as a starting point to
create your own web-based alerts.
